Gwynedd Forklifts raise over £3,668 for blind veterans charity

At the start of May, three members of Gwynedd Forklifts completed their 200km charity bike ride to help ex-Servicemen and women who have lost their sight.

Tom Hutin, Aled Parry and James Singleton set off on their long and tiring journey from GFL Head Office in Mochdre and planned out some scenic landmark visits along the way. These included: Conwy Castle, Bangor Pier, Llanfairpwll train Station, RAF Valley, South Stack Lighthouse and also the Trearddur Bay Hotel, who kindly sponsored a room for the event.

The next morning, they set off at 6am with the aim of reaching Menai Bridge for the finish line. The second day had very few stops allowing them to continue all the way to the finish with a quick stop in the scenic Amlwch and also Beaumaris.

From Menai Bridge, the team decided to carry on for an extra stretch back to the Conwy depot. They were greeted by a finish line tape and colleagues ready to congratulate them on their fantastic achievement.

Tom Hutin, Used Equipment Salesman, said:

“The scenery was amazing, and the support from everyone has been incredible. Everyone who knows me, knows fitness is not my comfort zone but having the GFL family behind me has been great whilst helping a charity close to our hearts, Blind Veterans UK”

James Singleton, RTIB Training Instructor, said:

“The cycle was tough but rewarding. Knowing we were supporting Blind Veterans UK kept us going. The support from all the brands has also been incredible, from Trearddur Bay Hotel sponsoring the accommodation, to other brands like Brecon Water, Huel and Morrisons for supplying us with water and energy snacks, we can’t thank them enough.”
